This half term we have been very lucky learning about the life cycle of a caterpillar-cocoon-butterfly. We read the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar and then we watched our caterpillars get bigger and fatter each day. When the caterpillars had eaten all the food they all climbed up to the top of the pot and hung down and went to sleep in cocoons. Then after 2 weeks butterflies miraculously emerged from the cocoons. We watched the butterflies shake their wings to dry off and then eat/drink from sugar water and fruit we put into their net. We released the butterflies into our nursery garden and watched them fly off and land on our plants and trees. We hope the butterflies will keep coming back to visit us. Here are some photos of the stages of the lifecycle.
