A Day in Year 6 – Friday
8.50 – 9.00am: Registration: we are greeted by staff then we settle quickly to handwriting practice.
9.00 – 9.15am: We enjoy a mental maths session every day to enable us to learn key addition, subtraction and multiplication facts. We like to know them like we know our own names!
9.15 – 10.15am: Maths: As well as problem solving we are making sure that we are quick and confident with written calculations this year.
10.15 – 10.30am: Break: Years 5 and 6 share a playground at the back of the school, where we can sit and relax or play football or basketball.
10.30 – 11.30am: English: As well as a daily English lesson we also have additional Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation (SPAG) lessons each week.
11.30 – 12.15pm: In this half an hour before lunch we manage to fit in a lesson of either French, Music, RE, PSHE or Computing
12.15 – 1.15pm: Lunch: In Year 6 we go outside first and then sit down to eat together in the hall.
1.15 – 1.35pm: Guided Read: our teachers work with a couple of groups each day whilst the rest of the class read independently or complete a comprehension task.
1.35 – 2.25pm: PE: each class has two PE lessons per week; Year 5 go swimming for one of their sessions.
2.25 – 2.45pm: Golden Time: On a Friday, if we have worked well all week, it is Golden Time!
2.45 – 3.15 On a Friday we end the week with a celebration assembly. Children receive Special Smile certificates, team points are announced and we celebrate the week that has just been.
