The children loved observing the changes through this lifecycle. Our caterpillars started off very small and tiny. Each day they ate the food and got bigger and fatter and longer and even spikier. When all the food had gone, they were very big and fat. The caterpillars climbed up to the top of the pot and hung down from the lid. Then they wrapped themselves up into a cocoon and stayed there for 2 weeks. Then out of the cocoons came beautiful, delicate, colourful butterflies. We learnt how to feed the butterflies and look after them but then we had to let them go and be free in our nursery garden. We look out for them every day and hope they will come back and visit us soon.
