The staff in nursery are Jenny Knowles, (EYFS Team Leader) and Teaching Assistants: Laura Mather, Joanne Stevenson, Donna Gardner, Lindsey McAuley, Chelsey Stirzaker and Lexie Watt.
Our intention within the Early Years Foundation Stage at Ryelands Primary and Nursery School is to be a consistently high quality setting to provide a secure foundation for children’s learning. We intend to provide a child-centred approach with learning and development opportunities planned around the needs and interests of each individual child, through a mix of planning in the moment, topic led planning and delivering an individual next step, skill-based approach. We recognise that many children start our nursery or reception with starting points significantly lower than typical development for their age and our intention is for all children to make accelerated progress to close this gap.
To aid this we ensure that our transition between the phases of EYFS is as effective as possible by ensuring it is a process and not an event. We aim to develop a triangle of trust and a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers to all work together to accelerate the progress of the children’s learning. We believe that every child should be included and supported and there should be equality of opportunities. We follow a gender neutral approach and work with several agencies to support the needs of all of our children.
Children in our foundation stage classes learn the skills and knowledge from the educational programmes.
Parents who work over 16 hours can check their eligibility for a 30 hour place. To check eligibility parents can visit: www.childcarechoices.gov.uk. If the parents are eligible for a 30 hour place for their child, they will be given an 11-digit code which they need to bring to nursery.
The 30 hour childcare at our setting is completely FREE. The children can attend Monday-Thursday 8.45-3.30 and Friday morning 8.45-11.45 and bring a packed lunch to nursery each day for NO CHARGE. (With the option to pay £14 to top up the Friday to a full day).

Autumn 1
For the first half term we settled all the children into nursery and focussed on building positive relationships with their new peers and adults in nursery.
The children who returned to nursery from last year played a big role in helping the new children to settle into nursery.
We were very busy learning ‘All about me’. The children have learnt how to draw pictures of their faces by looking in a mirror and talking about what they could see on their face and what each part was used for and then representing their faces onto the paper. The parents sent in photographs of their child as a baby and the children enjoyed talking to us all about how they have changed since being a baby and what they can do now that they couldn’t do as a baby. The children had to chose from a selection of photographs of babies which one was them and tell us how they knew it was them. As the children loved their baby photos so much we then asked the parents to send in photos of their families/ who lives in their house and the children loved telling everyone all about the people in the photographs and what they like to do at home. The children progressed their art skills from drawing faces to drawing people pictures to represent each person in their family. The photographs are displayed in nursery and the children loved practising their oracy skills talking to each other about their families. Some children started bringing in conkers and Autumn leaves so we also learnt about the season of Autumn and went to on a few Autumn walks looking for signs of Autumn, we talked about how the weather is changing and we needed to wear our coats to stay warm and dry. The children also developed their art and DT skills to create a wonderful Autumn display in nursery using lots of different techniques. We also learnt about Halloween and Diwali and the children shared how they celebrate these festivals at home. We enjoyed a visit to the pumpkin patch to see the pumpkins growing and the other foods growing in the vegetable garden.

Autumn 2
In Autumn 2 we started learning about Fireworks and bonfire night and then continued our topic- All about me. The children loved sharing photos of their pets with their friends in nursery and using their oracy skills to tell us what they pet liked to do and what their pet needed to be looked after. We had a great week learning about our senses and what we use our eyes, ears, nose, mouth and hands for. It was a very exciting week when we read The Colour Monster story and learnt about the different emotions we feel. We used our oracy skills again to talk about what makes us feel happy, sad, angry, scared etc and what we can do to help people when they feel those emotions. Finally we enjoyed learning about Christmas and why we celebrate Christmas. Our Christmas party was very special with a visit from Santa.
