Year 5 – Changes in Materials

In Year 5, we have been looking at Properties and Changes of Materials. We carried out an experiment to see what would happen when we mixed vinegar and bicarbonate of soda. Through past experience, we knew it would foam up but this time we decided to see why the foam is created. We put a glove on top of the beaker before mixing the chemicals and found that the glove blew up like a balloon. We discovered that when the vinegar and bicarbonate of soda mix, they create Carbon Dioxide. We enjoyed this experiment and are looking forward to trying other experiments with reversible and irreversible changes.
