Using our senses to learn about aubergines.

Last week the children enjoyed playing the shopping list game, one of the items to collect was an aubergine. Jenny learnt something new whilst playing the game as one of the children told her it was also called an egg plant. A lot of the children showed a lot of interest in the aubergine/egg plant so Joanne bought some for all the children to try. On the carpet the children explored the aubergine and used their senses to smell and feel it, some children even tried to use their ears to see if it made a sound. They used adjectives like soft, smooth, heavy and big to describe what they saw and felt. At snack time Joanne had cooked the aubergine for everyone to try, everyone used their noses to smell and their tongues to taste the new vegetable.
