Releasing our butterflies into the nursery garden.

May 16, 2026

The children gathered together to watch the adults carefully release the butterflies into the garden. They observed with excitement and curiosity as the butterflies spread their wings and flew away. The children remained engaged throughout the experience, pointing, commenting, and asking questions about where the butterflies might go, supporting communication and language development. Watching the butterflies helped develop understanding of the world as the children learned more about living creatures and the butterfly life cycle. They showed personal, social and emotional development by displaying calm behaviour, patience, and respect for nature during the activity. The experience also encouraged imaginative thinking and emotional expression, with many children showing awe and delight as they watched the butterflies fly freely into the outdoor environment.
