Welcome to Year 6!
The adults in our year group are: Mrs Reddy (Oak class teacher and team leader), Mrs Chapman (Sycamore teacher), Mrs Galnaski, Mrs Saban, Mrs Spillman and Mrs Roy. On Mondays and Fridays, Mrs Monaghan joins our team and on Wednesday afternoon, Oak class are taught by Mr Sorrell.
Key information:
- We expect our children to read every night and the children will receive a special treat at the end of half term if they’ve been reading regularly.
- Please make sure you have your PE kits in school at all times. We will send them home for washing each half term. They require their house colour t-shirt (available from Uniform and Leisure Wear), plain black shorts and black pumps or trainers.
- Weekly homework will be set on Google Classroom, where you can also find links to Times Table Rockstars, Spelling Shed and other useful sites for supporting the children’s learning.

Autumn 1 – Glorious Greeks
We are learning about Ancient Greece. We will look at their lifestyles and compare to our culture in the UK. We will then move onto Light.

Autumn 2 - World War II
We will look at World War Two. We will look at the impact on people’s lives in Britain and are also planning a visit to look at artefacts. We also visited Central High where we completed a heart dissection.

Spring 1 - Power
We will look at Power this half term and visit Heysham Power Station where we will learn lots about the source of energy as well as having a tour of the station.
The children have explored circuits and learnt the circuit symbols.

Spring 2 - Survival
We will look at Survival and the evolution of plants and animals and how they survive in their environments. We will explore the continents and climates of each region.

Summer 1 - Revision
We will be revising; ready for the tests in the week beginning 13th May. Children have additional resources they can access on Google Classroom and from their teacher.

Summer 2 - South America and The Maya
The children will be learning all about South America and the Maya. We will be comparing the geographical features and the culture in both locations. This is also the term where we go to London on our residential.
The Year 6 residential to London will be in Summer 2. There is an information evening on Thursday 11th September 2025 and a letter has gone home.
