We love coming to school! Each day at Ryelands is full of learning and exciting new challenges. School starts at 8.45am and we finish our school day at 3.15pm.
Although every day is different at Ryelands Primary and Nursery School, here is what your child will experience on a typical school day…
8.45 – 9.00 am: Registration: we are welcomed into school and we practice our handwriting
9:10 – 9:30 am: Assembly: On Monday morning we have an assembly with Mrs Pye where we think about the school values and other events.
9.30 – 10.15 am: Maths: In maths, we learn all about numbers and the number system (and everything else in between). We like to use our maths knowledge to help us explain why an answer is what it is and also to help us solve problems. We also do our ‘mastering number’ session where we learn how to be fluent with number facts.
10.15 – 10.30 am: Break: We enjoy playing outside with the other Years 1 and 2 classes
10.30 – 11.30 am: English: Every morning we have an English lesson where we can improve our reading, writing and speaking and listening skills.
11.00 – 12.00pm: Phonics: We have a daily phonics session in a small group every day.
12.00 – 1.00 pm: Lunchtime: We sit together with staff in the hall to eat our lunch and then have lots of toys to play with outside.
1.00 – 1.20 pm: Guided Read: Everyone in class reads whilst the teachers teach reading to groups.
1.20 – 3.15 pm: Topic: Our curriculum is organised into themes, which makes the learning interesting and more creative.
8.45 – 9.00 am: Registration: we are greeted by staff then we settle quickly to handwriting practice.
9.00 – 9.15 am: We enjoy a maths fluency session every day to enable us to learn key addition, subtraction and multiplication facts. We like to know them like we know our own names!
9.15 – 10.15 am: Maths: As well as problem solving we are making sure that we are quick and confident with written calculations this year.
10.15 – 10.30 am: Break: Years 5 and 6 share a playground at the back of the school, where we can sit and relax or play football or basketball.
10.30 – 11.00 am: Guided Read: We explore different text types and build our reading fluency and comprehension.
11.00 – 12.25 pm: English: As well as a daily English lesson we also have additional Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation (SPAG) lessons each week.
12.25 – 1.25 pm: Lunch: In Year 6 we go outside, have some independent time where we choose our own activities indoors and then sit down to eat together in the hall.
1.30 – 2.30 pm: Ryelands University for Life: We mix into groups across Upper KS2 to learn skills for life. See our RUfL page on our webiste. https://ryelands.lancs.sch.uk/ryelands-university-for-life/
2.45 – 3.15 On a Friday we end the week with a celebration assembly. Children receive Special Smile certificates, team points are announced and we celebrate the week that has just been.
