Making rectangles

This week we have been learning about rectangles ( also called oblongs). Today we had lots of sticks. First we practised our oral counting skills to count 40 sticks. We then sort them into 2 piles and talked about how one pile were long sticks and one pile were short sticks. We looked at a rectangle and found we would need 4 straight sticks to make our rectangles and that we would need 2 long sticks and 2 short sticks. Each child collected 2 long sticks and 2 short sticks from the piles. We practised our adding skills and practised saying that 2 and 2 makes 4. Each child then made their own rectangle.
