Hello to you all,
I just want to know that I am missing you all dearly. I have been working in school as well as from home and I am trying to keep myself busy and safe.
There are some links to some ideas for online learning on our website already but here are some further thoughts to keep your brain and your body active:
P.E. with Joe Wicks– tune in to Joe Wicks at 9am every day to get your dose of P.E. (drink water afterwards)
Reading– read as much as you possible can. Read as you go to sleep, read different types of books. For more books, go to https://www.getepic.com/ where you can sign up to a free account (for 30 days- be careful with payment details and make sure that you cancel before you are charged- ask for help from an adult with this).
TTRS– wow your family with your lightning-fast times tables fact recall! I have changed some of your times tables. Keep an eye on your heat map and the leaderboard. I am going to go on TTRS every day this week at our usual time- 11:45- 12:15. If you can, go on at that time, too! We might see each other in arena (we definitely will in festival mode). *Make sure that you warm up for a few minutes on Garage- then go on Studio so that you can keep an accurate track of your studio speed! Then maybe go to arena/ festival/ head-to-head challenges.
Read Theory: aim to complete three of these each day! Do your best, I will be giving shout outs to people who have been on this quite a lot.
Numbots: Let’s see who can unlock all of the costumes first!
Spellings: Search on Google for ‘Statutory Year 5 & 6 Spelling Words’ and practice these- sometimes on spellingtraining.com but also on paper- draw the words into flowers, in different colours and have fun with it.
Research projects: Research the topics and English texts, which we may miss some schooling on:
- The Stone Age!
- The Pendle Witch Trials (real life) and the history of Lancaster Castle!
- Macbeth (beware- super spooky)
- The Highwayman (by Alfred Noyes) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryu1JZiSbHo
- Life Cycles: I would love to see you having grown flowers or food in your garden. Take photographs or draw the plants as they grow. If you get chance to eat anything you have grown take a picture of your plate for our class page.
BBC Supermovers– to practice grammar use in our writing
Code.org– see if you can complete the whole of Course E (continue with the lessons- you may need help with this from somebody at home… but remember to READ the instructions and keep your cool- the instructions always have hints and tips to help you when your code has gone wrong… also remember that errors in your code are completely normal and part of the process!)
You should have all of the logins for these in your Reading Records. If you do not have access to these, please send a message on the school app, and I will send your login details to you.
If you are looking for additional learning, try these websites:
Interland– Try the challenges which we haven’t gotten to yet https://beinternetawesome.withgoogle.com/en_us/interland
Youtube drawing tutorials- (be careful when browsing online)
Practice your French… les dents! (Youtube is another good place for this- try learning the French alphabet, numbers up to 100 and colours).
Practice your handwriting as you…
Keep a daily diary of this unprecedented time in our modern History.
See you all soon,
